The Aviation Technical Library is a mission-support activity serving the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and supports Army Aviation warfighters around the world. The library provides in-depth academic and technical library reference support, research assistance and interlibrary loan service to all active duty military and civilian personnel at USAACE.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, all services are free of charge. When planning to photocopy or print long documents (more than 10 pages), patrons should bring their own paper. Also, please bring a blank disk or CD-R when requesting copies of information in electronic format.

No. AR 25-2 Information Assurance prohibits the use of personal storage devices on any networked computer, including those in the Aviation Technical Library and Aviation Learning Center. Only those devices that have been approved by the Library Systems Administrator or Information Assurance Manager may be used in a network computer. If you have special needs or any questions regarding this policy, please ask a staff member for assistance.

Yes. Call (334) 255-2944 to ask for interlibrary loan service. If you need a book, please supply the title, author, and edition, if applicable. When requesting photocopies of periodical articles, you should be prepared to supply the following: periodical title, article title, volume number or date of publication, and page number. All interlibrary loans are free of charge. Since ILL requests come from other libraries, please give ample time for your items to arrive.

No. There are no limits on check-outs of books or videos in the ATL.

Yes, if there is no hold on the item. You may bring the loaned materials to the Circulation Desk for renewal or you may renew loans by calling (334) 255-2944.

Yes, all of the videotapes and DVDs may be checked out of the library, with no limit on number. The loan period is two weeks.

Yes. You may bring refreshments into the Library or purchase them from the soft drink and snack machines in the building. Just be kind and clean up after yourself!

Use of tobacco products of any kind (including chewing tobacco) is prohibited at all times in Building 9204. IAW AR 600-63, smoking is not allowed within 50 feet of the entrances in Building 9204.

The Library has a microfiche reader/printer which produces paper copies or PDF copies from microfiche – ask for assistance from the library staff.

All titles on the U. S. Army Chief of Staff's Professional Reading List are available in the Library – just ask us!

Absolutely! If the information you need is available in electronic format or Library staff can convert it to electronic format, we will email it or post it on AKO for you to access. Just give us a call at (334) 255-2944 or (334) 255-2324.

Library Policy

User Policy

The Aviation Technical Library serves all members of the Army Aviation community. The general public may use all unclassified, unlimited materials in-house, subject to noninterference with USAACE patrons and priorities imposed by the local commander.

You will need a borrower's card to check out materials, receive a literature search or request an interlibrary loan. Cards are issued to:

  • USAACE active duty personnel
  • USAACE civilian employees
  • Reservists and National Guard on active duty for training at Fort Novosel
  • TDY personnel at Fort Novosel
  • Fort Novosel Contractors (must complete Contractor's Authorization Form)
  • Retired military personnel (borrowing purposes only)
  • Family members of active duty military personnel (borrowing purposes only)

Circulation Policy

All circulating items (Army and DoD publications, books, videos, DVDs and CDs) are checked out for two weeks and may be renewed for an additional two weeks if there is no hold on the item. Limited free copying is provided for items that do not circulate.

Internet Access Policy

Only active duty military personnel, DoD civilians and authorized Fort Novosel contractors may use the Internet (NIPRNET) computers in the Aviation Technical Library. Permanent party personnel must use their CAC for network access. The library provides Internet access for official government business and research, and use is monitored at all times by the library staff for adherence to all regulations and directives.
