  1. #1 Best Private K-12 Schools in San Francisco Bay AreaThe Nueva SchoolHillsborough, CA•Private School•PK, K-12•Rating 4.53 out of 5 73 reviewsMiddle school student: Nueva is one of the best schools I have ever been to. My first year attending was in 6th grade, and I am currently a middle school student at the Hillsborough campus. Nueva offers a multitude of opportunities for everyone attending, from those interested in math to individuals pursuing the arts, and with many clubs and electives available with topics ranging from building a lap guitar to creative writing, we can choose what we wish to pursue. An important part of our wonderful learning environment is the supportive, kind faculty: The teachers are mostly extremely trustworthy and know how to cater to everybody's needs and learning style. Our community is also quite nice—our student environment is not very cliquey, and parents are greatly involved in the path of our school. Additionally, from the Hillsborough campus, many acres of beautiful, lush hiking trails are easily accessible, and one can admire the rolling hills that border the school. We specifically chose Quarry Lane for our child, because of the utmost importance the school places in developing well-rounded citizens. While the school's alumni profile and test scores definitely highlight their academic excellence, they also provide a very rich and nurturing space for the students to excel in all their chosen activities. The school and the community value kindness and responsible citizenship, and these values are not just spoken but actually reflected in how their students emulate themselves in the real world. It has been a great place to work and I've loved getting to know the students here as well. The students are funny, passionate, and intelligent kids who can often teach you just as much as you can teach them. While it is a STEM-focused school, there are a plethora of fine arts classes offered as well, which the students are highly engaged in. Frommy international friends and classmates, I have learned about thediscrimination against Romanians in Eastern Europe, how China’s BeltRoad Initiative is impacting countries such as Zimbabwe, and howTürkiye and the United States’ political atmospheres are similar. 11. #11 Best Private K-12 Schools in San Francisco Bay AreaFrench American International School and International High SchoolSan Francisco, CA•Private School•PK, K-12•Rating 3.84 out of 5 110 reviewsParent: My son attended preK-12, a lifer as they say at FAIS. The bilingual education is a big advantage, most students pick up a third language in middle school. The teachers at FAIS and IHS are top level and many could easily teach college courses but choose the more intimate environment of private high school. FAIS and IHS often take knocks for athletics, but the upside is that most students can participate in multiple sports and not sit on the bench. Many students pursue sports at club level anyway, the school teams being secondary. The college admission advisory team is excellent, being run by highly competent and thoughtful counselors. International travel and exchange programs are well run and round out a solid education. Additions over the past decade to the school campus with an art and music building created a communal space. The downtown location is convenient for most parents. High marks for an urban high school preparing students for college and life.... There are study halls after school with teachers who offer tutoring in all subjects. My children enjoy the after-school clubs, and have had life-changing experiences with international programs. The teachers are accessible; when I have questions or want to consult them, they make arrangements right away to meet with me. Coming from a prestigious public high school, he found himself uninspired and unchallenged there, lacking the confidence to explore his potential. However, within just 3 years at LWHS, he has undergone a remarkable transformation. In the public school he viewed essay writing as a dreadful duty, producing mere paragraphs of simple statements. Now, he effortlessly crafts 3-page essays using refined and vivid language. Once a shy and withdrawn student, he now thrives as the center of class activities. Unlike before, where fear of judgment held him back, he now eagerly embraces new opportunities, whether it's participating in theater productions or solo singing. His development wouldn't have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the faculty, particularly Kshama, Hazemach, and Keshava, whose guidance and support played a pivotal role in shaping my son into the mature young man he has become.... I knew I picked the right school for my son because he's been getting up on time in the morning just to go to class. I see the positivity in him every day as he is thriving to learn academically, socially, and most importantly, Christian morals. He comes home reciting songs and telling me the bible stories that he's learned in school and interesting school experiments, such as The Elephant Toothpaste Experiment. The staff is wonderful as they all greet him and say his name when passing by. The school principal must have a photographic memory because he knows each one of the children's names while greeting them in the mornings. One of the other benefits is the small classroom size so that the teacher can emphasis the fun in learning and has the time to spend with a student who would need additional help. The academics in some departments are lacking, some courses are not very strong, and there always seem to be a couple of teachers who miscommunicate, but I love my school. Our community is a special aspect of the campus. Pleasant Hill is a lovely city, but the people make it memorable. Everyone is kind and welcoming. It gives a sense of home and comfort. The school operates like a big family and they are not afraid to admit when wrong about something. During my time attending PHAA, I have used it as an escape from my worries. The friendships I have made at that school will last me a lifetime. No matter what obstacles may get thrown at us, we always find a way to stay friends. I'm so thankful I got to meet so many incredible people at PHAA. I will never forget the memories we have made together. I'm glad I found my community, which I will miss when I go to college....
